What is PAPR and how does it work?
A powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) is a kind of improved version of a traditional air purifying respirator. It delivers clean air and protects the respiratory system by filtering air through a battery-generated blower. PAPRs cause pressure through a filter, which forces air to the user. Powered air-purifying respirators reduce breathing resistance and offer a higher level of protection.Usually, a PAPR is made of four major components: a blower or a motor, a filter, a breathing tube, and a headpiece (hood or helmet). The PAPR first pulls air through the air intake, which is later forced into the filter that removes hazardous components. Then, the filtered air is delivered to the headpiece through the pipe for the user to inhale. Meanwhile, the blower also maintains positive pressure to prevent the leakage of contaminated air.
-
Is a PAPR better than an N95 mask?
Yes, a Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) offers a higher level of respiratory protection by removing 99.97% of hazardous air particles, compared to an N95 mask that removes 95% of airborne particles.
-
How much does a PAPR cost?
Generally, a PAPR costs between $1,000 and $3,000, depending on the quality of the PAPR. However, at Hero LifeCare, we are offering PAPRs costing between $1,000 and $1,500. You can also customize a PAPR based on your additional needs and requirements with us.
-
Do you need fit testing for PAPR respirators?
Yes, for tight-fitting powered air-purifying respirators, and no for loose-fitting PAPRs. Fit testing is required to ensure a proper seal between the respiratory system and the user's face. Fit testing becomes crucial to check before buying a PAPR, as it prevents contaminated air from bypassing the filter.
